A landmark site on the Clyde, reimagined as a place to live
South Lanarkshire Council has granted planning in principle to redevelop Shawfield Stadium into a mixed-use community of 450 homes, a 150-bed hotel and 700m² of commercial space.
The 4.75-hectare triangular site, bounded by Rutherglen Road, Glasgow Road and Shawfield Drive, will be cleared of the existing stadium to make way for new development. The outline of the historic racetrack lives on — new buildings trace its circumference, while the centre is decked over as a landscaped focal point with parking concealed below.
Brought forward by Shawfield Regeneration in phases with a range of delivery partners, the scheme complements Clyde Gateway’s ongoing work to rejuvenate the surrounding area, with a quarter of all homes designated affordable.
Designed around the site’s history
The layout respects the memory of the stadium while opening the site up to its neighbours, the river and the streets around it.
Racetrack Legacy
New buildings follow the circumference of the former greyhound track, keeping its distinctive form legible in the new neighbourhood.
Landscaped Deck
The centre of the site is decked over to create a green focal point for residents, with parking tucked away beneath.
Active Frontage
Shell ‘shop’ units line the pavement edge of Shawfield Drive and Rutherglen Road, bringing life to the street.
Phased Delivery
Delivered in phases with different development partners, integrated with the wider Clyde Gateway programme.
